Donald Trump withdraws US from TPP

US President Donald Trump has killed America's involvement in the Trans-Pacific Partnership mega free trade deal with Australia, New Zealand, Japan and eight other Pacific nations. Trump signed an executive order on Monday to withdraw the US from the TPP. "Everyone knows what that means, right?" Trump said at the signing ceremony in the White House. "We've been talking about this for a long time. "It's a great thing for the American worker." It is a major blow to the Australian government, with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull holding out hope Trump might not go ahead with his TPP election promise. Australian Trade Minster Steven Ciobo, who is in the US, said on the weekend he has been speaking with remaining TPP nations "on ways to lock in the benefits from the TPP" without US involvement. Trump picks South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to be US ambassador to UN

President-elect Donald Trump has picked South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to be the US ambassador to the United Nations, the transition team announced Wednesday. "When the President believes you have a major contribution to make to the welfare of our nation, and to our nation's standing in the world, that is a calling that is important to heed," Haley said. "The second is a satisfa...

(Source: AP) The American teenager was talking as if her time in Rio was done the competition was just too intimidating, the Olympic atmosphere was too overwhelming and she was bothered by a persistent cold. That’s the thing about Sydney McLaughlin, even when she’s not at her best and maybe a bit overwhelmed, she still finds a way to get things done. The 17-year-old from Dunellen, New Jersey, cut it close Monday night, but made it through to the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles. Looks like that summer homework project she’s been putting off will just have to wait another few days. “It’s exciting to be here,” said McLaughlin, who finished in 56.32 seconds the 20th fastest time, and just enough to advance. “But it’s also a little intimidating, because a lot of people have done this before and have more experience than me. I mean, just to be here, at this age, repre...
