The Vikings aren't doomed without Teddy Bridgewater

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports Sure, it dampens some of the high hopes for this team, but they still have the pieces in place to be very competitive in the NFC this year. It’s not all bad news for the Vikings. Teddy Bridgewater has a torn ACL and a dislocated knee, but no nerve damage. In other words, his career isn’t far, over from it, but his season is. The bigger question now is whether the Vikings' season is over, too. Minnesota’s gotten a lot of hype in the offseason. For good reason, after finishing with an 11-5 record last year and a missed field goal away from beating the Seahawks in the playoffs. The defense looks much better. They still have an offense built around Adrian Peterson, and the offensive line got a much needed upgrade. Building a winning team around a good ground game and a strong defense isn’t exactly new. It’s not flashy, and Vikings fans probably aren’t going to find much solace in the fact that the team has been forced into the

Bears QB Connor Shaw calls hit that broke his leg ‘cheap BS’

Connor Shaw called the hit that snapped his leg an unnecessary "cheap" shot. The Chicago Bears third-string quarterback suffered the gruesome injury in the closing minutes of Saturday's preseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Solider Field. "Injuries are a part of the game & I understand that," the ex-South Carolina QB who is battling for a roster spot in Chicago tweeted. "This should've been avoided. No need for that type of cheap BS!" Shaw, who spend the 2015 season on injured reserve with the Browns with a thumb injury, has since deleted that tweet directed at Chiefs defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches. But his initial anger is easy to understand. After completing a pass on fourth down to Josh Bellamy, Nunez-Roches left his feet to make the lunging tackle after Shaw had released the pass. After deleting his cheap-shot tweet, Shaw changed his tune: "Overwhelmed w/ support. I'm blessed to have so many p

But what's been mos

It’s National Dog Day! We Share Our Dogs’ Best and Worst Money Habits

Here's a ruff idea of their spending.   "Cooper’s worst money habit is ripping apart all of his toys the same day he gets them, which makes me spend a lot of money on toys!" —Veronica Quezada, MONEY Audience Engagement Writer   In honor of National Dog Day, we asked MONEY staffers to divulge just how much they spend on their pooches. While we know you can’t put a price on a pup’s unconditional love, the bills do add up. This year, U.S. pet owners are expected to spend $62.75 billion on dogs and other furry, scaly, and feathered friends—a figure that has steadily increased each year, according to the American Pet Products Association. Puppy chow eats up the largest chunk of that total, with Americans expected to spend $23 billion on pet food. Trips to the vet are also costly, too, running pet owners a total of $15.42 billion in 2016. The essential expenses are only part of the total cost; there’s also grooming, boarding, vitamins,

Cleveland Browns have Terry Talkin' Pryor, Griffin, dreams, realism, expectations -- Terry Pluto

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- I can understand the training camp excitement about seeing Josh Gordon, Terrelle Pryor, Gary Barnidge, Corey Coleman and Robert Griffin III on the same field. These are very gifted athletes. But I want to inject some realism -- if three of the five players come through, the Browns should be overjoyed. Let's think about what these five did last season: 1.  Griffin didn't take a single snap with Washington. His last good NFL season was 2012. 2.  Gordon was suspended for the entire 2015 season. He played only five games in 2014. His last good season was 2013. 3.  Barnidge had a career year in 2015, catching 79 passes and making the Pro Bowl. In his six previous pro seasons, he caught only 44 passes. 4.  Pryor played three games for the Browns, catching one pass. The former Ohio State quarterback is learning to be a wide receiver. 5.  Coleman was the 2015 Biletnikoff winner as college football's top receiver. The Browns' first-round p

Britney Spears: Carpool Karaoke Was “Awkward”

Britney Spears  seemed game for anything during her Carpool Karaoke on  The Late Late Show . After all, host  James Corden  can somehow celebrities to let their guard down enough to do something that would embarrass most people. Hours after the segment aired, though, Britney admitted that Carpool Karaoke was also “awkward.” “It was a little awkward like driving by grocery stores,” she said to  Cubby and Carolina in the Morning  on New York’s 103.5’s KTU. “People walk by and there are like 18 cameras around us. This is just so awkward.” Britney also said that she tried to have some say in the song choices, though James wouldn’t budge. “Well he controlled the whole thing, and sometimes I got onto him and said, I don’t want to hear that song again.” Which song, exactly? “Of course ‘… Baby [One More Time]’ and ‘Oops![… I Did It Again].’ Oh my god and he kept playing them. He put a wig on for it. Yeah, I totally went along with it.” Britney doesn’t seem to have ha

Black Movie, White Director: Richard Tanne on the Obamas First-Date Movie, Southside With You

Southside With You  premiered at Sundance on January 24 of this year, 10 days after the Oscar nominations were announced, 10 days after it was clear that the Academy had neglected to nominate any people of color in the acting categories for the second straight year.  Southside  must have seemed like a fresh breath in that thin mountain air, a progressive step away from the systemic Hollywood problems that the #OscarsSoWhite discussion decried. An imagining of how President Barack Obama and Michelle then-Robinson’s first date went down,  Southside  features a cast that is entirely black and spends much of its time as a showcase of a dialogue on race relations and blackness between its two principal characters (Barack is played by Parker Sawyers, Michelle is played by Tika Sumpter). The Sundance crowd received the movie fondly— many of the reviews that make up its current 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes date back to the Sundance screenings. Southside  does what so few movies—I actu
