Inlight of the Cleveland Indians' Opening Day game against theBoston Red Sox being postponed until tomorrow, the team hasannounced an "enhanced" ticket exchange policy that will allow fans who cannot attend tomorrow's game to attend two select future games instead.
The one-time exchange offer also allows fans to select any game in April or May, instead of the handful they were initially offered. Anyone who purchased tickets through a third-party vendor such as StubHub are still only eligible to attend tomorrow's game and nothing else, however.
Fans who can attend tomorrow's game do not need to actually exchange their tickets. They will be able to attend tomorrow's makeup game at 1:00 p.m. EDT with today's ticket, as well as choose a future game in April or May of their choosing to attend.
The Indians officially postponed the game a mere hour-and-a-half before first pitch, understandably angering fans, many of whom were already lined up outside Progressive Field and not informed of the postponement until after news spread through Twitter.
The reason for the postponement was a forecast that called for more precipitation than the team initially anticipated, as well as wind chills in the teens. Tomorrow's weather should be a bit better, with sunny skies making the temperature feel much closer to freezing instead of nearly in the single digits.
The whole situation sucks, and no amount of free games will make up for the people that had to fly into Cleveland and take off work to attend a home opener, but two tickets for one is about the best the Indians can do in such an unwinnable situation. It's something they had absolutely no obligation to do, but they did anyway.
Front gates for tomorrow's game will open at 11:00 a.m. EDT. All the planned Opening Day festivities, including appearances from Kenny Lofton and Travis Hafner, will still take place. First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. EDT.
