Celine Dion Gives a Tearful Interview After Her 2016 Billboard Music Awards Performance: "Music Is Extremely Therapeutic"

As Céline Dion sang, "The Show Must Go On"—and go on it did.
At the 2016 Billboard Music Awards Sunday, the 48-year-old diva brought down the house with her cover of Queen's "The Show Must Go On." Celine received a standing ovation inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and to top it off, she received the ICON Award from her 15-year-old son, René-Charles Angélil. A surprised and emotional Celine thanked her fans, family, children, and "most importantly," her late husband René Angélil, "who I know will continue to watch over me from above." Celine added, "René, this one's for you. The show must go on."
Celine then made her way backstage to do interviews, but paused to watch Madonna and Stevie Wonder's tribute to Prince. She danced, sang along and snapped her fingers as they performed"Nothing Compares 2 U" (which Prince wrote Sinéad O'Connor) and "Purple Rain." Afterward, Celine and E! News' Sibley Scolesshared a few tears while recounting the big night.
"Normally I feel pretty much in control. I don't necessarily like surprises. I like to be prepared; I thought I was," the Canadian singer said. "From a mom who was prepared with her children at the funerals, to tell them that it's fine, to be strong and all that, so for me I was like, 'OK, I'm going to sing my favorite song,' and they want to give me that award? Oh, my God. It's not the reason why I'm doing that. It's not the reason why I'm here. But they're giving me a very, very important...iconic award…for my children when I'm gone, these are the moments that will stay. These are the moments that will be remembered, I think. For my husband, 'The Show Must Go On,' his favorite song that I do every night, [was why] I said 'OK, I'll go and it's going to work.'"

Celine was taken aback when René-Charles appeared on stage to give her the ICON award. Doing so meant putting himself in front of "so many people" and that could be "intimidating." As she explained to E! News, "This is what we do, and it's hard. For my son to say, 'I'm going to be doing this for my mom,' I was like, 'Wow, OK. Thank you, Billboard. You got me. Thank you."
The singer and Sibley shared a tender, tearful moment as they discussed Prince's impact. "Music is extremely therapeutic. It doesn't matter what kind of music you like," Celine said. "I've been singing 'Purple Rain' onstage for more than a year now…Prince wrote me a song a little while ago. It's called 'With This Tear'...I think Madonna an amazing job with Stevie Wonder tonight."
"I think we're at a moment of show business right now that needs to be recognized, and you know what? It's about time, I think. I'm excluding myself in saying that, but it's about time that the industry is recognizing the people that are making a difference in the industry before it's too late, before they have a hard time to talk, before they have a hard time to walk, before they barely recognize and remember what they've done," she said. "It's not worth it to wait so long to recognize them, so if you want to recognize them and give them an award, do it. Do it now.

Hillary Clinton Gains Double-Digit Lead Over Donald Trump in Key Battleground States

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has built up a significant lead in several crucial battleground states, according to new NBC/WSJ/Marist polling released today. Clinton has generated double-digit margins in Virginia and Colorado with 13-point and 14-point advantages over Trump, respectively. The poll also showed Clinton with leads over Trump in Florida and North Carolina. In the Sunshine State, Clinton has a 5-point edge among registered voters. In North Carolina, Clinton enjoys a 9-point advantage. Losses in these states could be devastating for Trump. The Republican nominee’s clearest path to the White House requires wins in Ohio and Florida, where Hillary Clinton has a slight lead, as well as North Carolina and Pennsylvania, where he trails by a broad nine percentage points. Trump has been plagued by controversy since his party’s convention three weeks ago, clashing with the father of a fallen Muslim soldier, refusing to endorse House Speaker...

Ten Things I Wish I Knew When I Started 'Deus Ex: Mankind Divided'

Photo: Eidos Deus Ex: Mankind Divided  is finally out today, an early embargo revealing pretty solid reviews, including my own 8/10 good-not-great score. I love the series, but I just wanted the sequel to evolve a little more than it did. With that said, what it does carry over from  Human Revolution  is welcome, and I enjoyed my time with the game overall. As always, when I get to play a game this early, I try to impart wisdom I’ve learned for those who are just starting out. This is a game where you have to make a lot of fundamental choices about both the story and which upgrade path you pick, so it doesn’t hurt to get some early guidance. There’s a lot to say, but I’ve narrowed it down to a handful of points for your consumption. Here are the ten things I wish I knew when I started  Deus Ex: Mankind Divided : 1. There Are At Least Two Ways To Do Almost Anything Deus Ex: Mankind Divided , like its predecessor, is a game about choice. ...

Former NFL player Darren Sharper sentenced to 18 years in drugging and rape case

The former NFL player Darren Sharper has been sentenced to 18 years in prison in a case in which he was accused of drugging and raping as many as 16 women in four states. Judge Jane Triche Milazzo sentenced Sharper on Thursday. He had pleaded guilty or no-contest in federal court in New Orleans, and state courts in Louisiana, Arizona, California and Nevada to charges arising from the allegations of drugging and raping women. Prosecutors suggested a nine-year prison term for Sharper under a multi-jurisdictional plea deal, but Milazzo rejected it as too lenient in June. The sentence was 15 months short of the maximum. He was also fined $20,000. Sharper pleaded guilty in federal court to three counts of distributing drugs with rape as the aim. He or his friend Brandon Licciardi, a former sheriff’s deputy in neighboring St Bernard Parish, put anti-anxiety drugs or sedatives into women’s drinks so they could rape them, according to a 15-page statement signed as part of ...
